We had a couple of issues. When we hired FirstLight Home Care, we had given them the duties of bathing and throwing some things in the laundry. They did all of that and had time left over. We then asked for them to do some light housework, but gave us a little pushback on that. I thought they would have been a little bit more helpful. I asked them to do 2 things and they don't seem to be doing them. They're personable, nice, and they treat the client fine, but they're not doing what I asked them to do. The caregivers are more or less there for an emergency. Since there's been no emergency, the client is doing fine. The caregivers could have a greater impact by doing the two things that I am most concerned with. That's why they're there and that's why I scheduled them at the time they're there. I want them to physically see the client take her medicine so she doesn't forget because she has memory problems. They need to be watching and making sure the client has a meal at dinner before they leave. They let her get away with her saying she'll eat a sandwich or two after they leave because she's not comfortable with eating in front of them. They're there to make sure she eats. Otherwise, she will forget and she won't eat. Those are the two things I asked them to do and those are the two things they're not doing.

I gave them a $2000.00 check upfront and I had a caregiver give me 2 visits one day and then I think one visit and a short visit the second week. I got bills even though I gave $2000.00 upfront. When I told them, they told me to think of it as the first month's rent, the last month's rent, and a security deposit. I asked them if they were going to remove the charges and they said the first month's rent, the last month's rent, and a security deposit. I decided to stop services. I was also charged $30.00 for 2 bills that came from Farmer's Bank. In other words because they generated the bill from Farmer's Bank, I was charged for it. I was shocked. I had called in to tell the answering service that my husband was taken to the hospital, so the caregiver would not have to come the next day. The caregiver showed up and he was very upset, so they had to pay him for coming. Communication was lost. I was charged for the caregiver sitting in the driveway until it was time for him to come in.

They are willing to work with you in regard to who is sent to your home. My husband loves Dorothy. She fits with him like a hand in a glove, and she went above and beyond of what we asked of her.

I like that it's local, and we've had several caregivers come already, and the first time they have a supervisor come with them. They're also easy to work with.

The people they send have a hard time getting to where we are; they do not have anyone close. I have not had any problems, but do not have anyone to do any actual patient care. We can only find outside work for them to do. There are a couple that do good inside. There is no actual provider to the patient.

Usually, I would rate them high, but today, the aide who came said she cleaned up my dad and changed him, but we went in behind her, and she did not do what she said she did. They could train their aides to do better and screen their aides when they hire them.

Sometimes a person is changing or someone else is coming, to let me know. It is better than it used to be though. They are all very helpful with the cooking.

I liked that I did not have a certain amount of hours and signed a contract. They were helpful when I needed to cancel service. I liked the caregivers they sent out.

I like the caregiver that we have. I can rely on them even if my caregiver is not available, they find someone to cover. I don't need to worry about mom being taken care of.
